Item description
The grace, poise, balance and perfection that we get to see on stage at a classical dance performance, does not happen as easily as it may look. Many get inspired while watching these performances . . . many wow to take up classical dancing in the near future. Mothers inspire their children, and the children develop dreams of being on the stage a few years from hence. The twist of reality in these dreams and inspirations is that, only a handful of the lot of enthusiasts manage to make it to the top finally. Becoming a classical dancer is not easy; and becoming a performer and master of the art is as difficult as climbing a mountain. What it takes to become a classical dancer, is a story that these handful who have made it to the top, would narrate in their free time . . . that is, if they have any.
The first step to becoming a classical dancer is undeniably, the ‘will’ to become one. This will has to develop preferably, at an early age. This allows the child enough time to learn and develop on the art. the second step is perhaps the most important step in realizing the dream of becoming a classical dancer, and this relates to locating the right teacher, rather a ‘Guru’. In any kind of traditional dancing, be it Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Odissi or any other dance forms for that matter, the Guru – Shishya (Teacher – Pupil) relationship makes all the difference towards the better or for worse. In the present times, when our nation has emerged as an integral part of the global village, not may institutions follow the rules and regulations of our ancient traditions as strictly as it should have been followed.
However, there are numerous renowned institutions in the city of kolkata that has teachers beyond excellence and, those who are responsible in bringing up world renowned classical dancers, and many masters. This is among the many reasons why, a classical dancer in Kolkata has immense value not just within the state boundary but all over the nation and beyond. Kolkata is called the cultural capital for many reasons and this happens to be just one among them. As a matter of fact, this one reason is perhaps the most important considering the rise in importance of classical dance world wide.
Being a place where festivals are on for the greater part of the year, and living by its name of holding colorful celebrations, functions and events every passing day, the requirement for dancers in Kolkata is ever growing. And if the dancers have a classical backup, things can get better and better. The scope of dancing is enormous and the base of it is always created by the traditional classical dances of our land. Constant practice, hard work, determination and perseverance is the formula to becoming a successful dancer. From the will to dance, to locating the right trainer, to putting shoulders on the wheel for achieving perfection . . . each step has to be traversed carefully and willfully, to be among those, whose success stories are narrated for generations to come.
